The Clark Circuit Court No 1 has original jurisdiction to preside over all civil and criminal cases. (IC 33-4-4-3) The Court also has appellate jurisdiction to hear appeals from the Jeffersonville City Court, the Charlestown City Court, the Sellersburg Town Court, and the Clarksville Town Court. Unlike traditional appeals, appeals from City and Town Courts are tried de novo in the Clark Circuit or Superior Court. (IC 33-10.1-5-9)

The Clark Circuit Court No. 1 is located on the 2nd Floor on the East Wing of the City-County Building at 501 East Court Avenue, Room 275, Jeffersonville, IN 47130 (812) 285-6308. Dan Moore

The Clark Circuit Court was established by the Indiana Constitution  as the  first-ever trial court  in this county.  Daniel Moore is the 15th serving Judge of this Court since it came into existence.  The Circuit Court has always had  general jurisdiction, meaning it is empowered to hear all types of cases, ranging from adoptions, family law, civil disputes, contract cases, probate estates, criminal charges and other types of cases.  The Circuit Court, historically, has also been  authorized to perform other functions like filling certain county appointments and managing conservancy districts.   In 1983 most of the appointment functions were changed to the county commissioners, though a few remain with the Circuit Judge.
